Sixty Four doesn’t have much of an origin story. Your character finds himself (assuming it’s a guy) in a white world with a strange machine. There’s a text conversation with a friend on the “outside” who listens and responds to this environment being described to them.

By clicking on the machine, it will drill into the ground and extract a material called Charonite. Sixty Four is described as a clicker game, but the fun part is automating the mining process as much as possible to extract the minerals fast and efficiently.

As you dig deeper, more resources will be discovered along with their quirks. A green stone is dubbed “Hell Gem” because it’s such a hard material to mine and you will be forced to upgrade your destabilizers to extract them quickly. Chomalit is another tricky resource as they are unstable and will disappear from your inventory unless they are kept in containment vessels.

One obstacle you’ll encounter is that facility costs go up with each deployment. Another issue is that earlier resources are harder to come by as you dig deeper into the ground. You can set up another costly mining rig (there’s a Steam achievement for having nine up and running), or invest in recycling facilities that will convert more abundant resources into ones that are more challenging to obtain.

Mining requires resources to run, and you’ll find yourself often replenishing depleted ores to get your machines back online again. Later in the game, you can deploy silos which will automatically refill nearby devices until they are depleted of their own energy source. Sadly, placing silos next to each other will not enable them to refill themselves. While you won’t obtain full automation, there is a Steam achievement for attempting to do so.

Occasionally, there will be a resource surge and if you hover your mouse pointer to it in time, you’ll collect a nice ore stash. On the right-hand side of the screen, you’ll see a list of available facilities that you can build (provided you have enough materials). Waiting plays a big part in this game. You'll often be waiting for enough resources to build a new structure, the next text message, or a new resource to be discovered. There’s a handy Steam guide available to give you some pointers on when to build stuff and when the resources will be discovered.

The text conversation between the main character and his friend has some language in it. If it wasn’t for that, Sixty Four would have gotten a perfect moral score.

If you enjoy games like Factorio, Sixty Four is worth checking out. The asking price of $5.99 is very reasonable. On the title screen you can import/export your Base64 encrypted save file. This is handy to know if you want to make any edits. Otherwise you can enjoy picking up where you left off with the Steam cloud support.
