Combination padlocks have been around for decades, and unless you set the code, it’s a challenge to remember what your combination is, especially if you don’t use it on a regular basis.  Whenever I would go to the gym, I would not trust myself and would keep the combination in my pocket, or written on my hand so I wouldn’t forget it.  I have learned the hard way the importance of locking your items up when using public lockers.  

Anweller specializes in biometric padlocks and their gym locker model is affordably priced at less than $30.  You can add multiple fingerprints to it to share it with friends or family members you trust.  Alternatively, you can unlock it from your phone after tapping on the padlock once to wake it up.  The padlock enters into a sleep state to conserve its battery.  According to its product page, the battery can last 144 hours (6 days) between charges. 

The store page also advertises that this padlock is water, rust, and corrosion resistant.  The temperature range goes from -4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.  Like all battery devices, the battery life is substantially diminished in colder temperatures.

The shackle is a couple of inches long which makes it ideal for locker, gun case, or luggage use.  Sadly, It’s not long enough to lock a couple of cabinet doors together.  The shackle is thin, but strong enough to withstand my husband from prying it open with his bare hands.  The shackle wouldn’t be a match for a bolt cutter, so I wouldn’t rely on it to secure expensive items.

In order to use the padlock, you need to download the application and create an account using your e-mail address.  After an account is created you’ll get a popup notification with some jumbled text.  Somewhere in the jumbled text you'll see how many Anweller lock owners there are.  Apparently, there are over 4.6 million of them. 

You’ll need to have Bluetooth enabled on your phone and give the application appropriate permissions to talk to the padlock.  Through the app you can register multiple fingerprints and unlock the padlock.  The app will also let you know the battery’s charge level.

While I wouldn’t use this lock to secure my ebike or something equally as valuable, it’s perfect for locker, luggage, or short-term gun case use.  I’m not sure why they decided to use a micro USB charging connector, but the rest of the design is solid.   If you don’t like memorizing combinations, the Anweller Fingerprint Gym Locker Lock is a great option that’s easy to use.
