Thank you Corsair for sending us this mousepad for review!

Mousepads are truly the unsung hero of any desk setup, especially for gamers. How well a mouse glides, and what kind of resistance it offers, is largely dependent on the mousepad. Depending on the style, it can make a light mouse easier to control, or make a heavy mouse easier to move. It can be thick and plush, or thin and smooth. This Corsair MM Large Mousepad falls into that latter camp.

I've long liked Corsair's mousepads, and even purchased one myself for my laptop many, many years ago. It was the original MM200, and I've kept it in my laptop bag for when I travel for about ten years. It is a small, basic mousepad, but it's served me quite well whenever I needed it. And while it's not as plush as some of the thicker mousepads I've used otherwise, it's great for taking something with you. This MM series mousepad seems like a spiritual successor to that classic MM200, as it has a fair amount in common.

The video is missing.
Highlights:

Strong Points: Understated styling that looks great; high-quality build, feel, and materials; mouse movements feel very accurate and glide smoothly; fantastic value
Weak Points: A bit thinner than many mousepads; not spill proof

There seems to be two common types of edging on cloth mousepads, and three common thicknesses. For edging, there is the more common straight cut, and the more premium stitched edging. My older Corsair MM200, as well as the Razer Gigantus V2 we were given a while back use a cut edge. In that case, the mousepad just ends, and there is a cliff on the end with exposed foam. Over time, that kind of edge can fray, as there is nothing more than glue holding it together. After even more abuse, the layers can separate, though that tends to happen on very old mousepads far past their usable life. My old MM200 has started to fray, but the layers are thankfully still well glued together so I can keep using it despite its advanced age. It probably helps that I primarily use it when traveling and not all the time.

Whatever the case, this new MM mousepad uses the more premium stitched edging. This style of edging has many little loops that hold the edge in place. It looks nicer, feels nicer, and keeps the edge from fraying over time. It also makes the edge feel smoother to your skin when touching it. Overall, I'm grateful for their choice to use stitched edging.

One other major differentiator between mousepads is how thick they are. Most use either 2mm, 3mm, or 4mm thick padding. This mousepad is a value-oriented product, so it uses the thinner 2mm padding. Honestly, for most uses, that's probably fine. The thicker it is, the less surface imperfections can be felt. However, if you use this mousepad on a smooth tabletop or on glass, this should be just fine. Thicker does feel nicer, but it costs more as well. Depending on budget and tabletop surface, thinner mousepads are more than sufficient.

The surface itself is a nice, smooth texture with seemingly diagonal micro-stitching. It's great looking and feels really nice. When using a mouse on the surface, it feels really nice and smooth with normal resistance. My mice glide over it smoothly, with some resistance but not any more than other smooth mousepads I've used. No real complaints here.

The Corsair MM mousepad that was sent to me is in the Large size. This mousepad is offered in five sizes, from Medium to 3XL. For me, Large is the perfect size for a regular, standalone mousepad on a desk. It might be too big for a tiny hotel desk or something like that, but for a home setup it's perfect. Medium is probably ideal if you want to take a mousepad with you while traveling. If you want a mousepad under your keyboard and mouse at your desk, then you probably want a larger size like XL, XXL, or 3XL.

The Corsair MM is an incredible value and feels great to use. The price of this Large model is only $16.99, and the prices remain competitive at all sizes. The build, feel, and design is simple and elegant, and looks like it should last for a very long time. If you're looking for a great value mousepad, this is an excellent choice. I wouldn't be surprised if some gamers preferred this over fancier options because it's such a simple no-frills option. Highly recommended!
