Synth Riders VR was originally released in 2019 and has been receiving DLC song packs on a regular basis since. Most of the DLC bundles include multiple songs that you can purchase in a pack for a discount or individually for $1.99. We Are The Champions DLC is sold individually and is the first DLC song to be released in 2026.

We Are The Champions is not the first Queen song to be available in Synth Riders. Don’t Stop Me Now is part of the 80s Mixtape Side B DLC bundle. With all the hits that Queen has, I’m surprised they don’t have their own dedicated bundle. Beggars can’t be choosers, so I’ll remain content with these two songs for now.

It took me a little while to find this DLC. In case you’re wondering, you can find it under the “Specials” category. Sadly, there’s no dedicated experience level for this song, but you can play it on any of the pre-existing stages available.

Synth Riders recently released a Level Up game enhancement system where players/riders earn experience for every song played. There are in-game achievements that can be earned by completing various milestones. Daily and weekly challenges are available to partake in as well. New riders are encouraged to complete various tutorials to get the most out of their journey.

The core gameplay mechanics have not changed. You have to touch similarly-colored orbs with your hands. Your left hand is blue while the right one is pink. Green orbs can be tapped with either hand and orange ones require both hands to get credit. There are also many pink walls that you have to dodge. Pink orbs placed near these obstacles may be hard to see at times.

Tapping the orbs alone will increase your combo, but if you look closely, the orbs are rotating. For maximum points you should aim to match them up with your hand positions, but that takes some quick reflexes!

When I streamed and then reviewed Synth Riders Current Waves DLC I used my RTX 5070 Ti-powered desktop and the Pimax Crystal Light VR headset. This time around I streamed with my RTX 4090-powered laptop with an Intel I9 14900HX. Sadly, it didn’t go very well. Despite having the Pimax OpenXR as the default runtime, the game was stuttering, which resulted in me failing this song multiple times in a row. After the stream I updated my Nvidia drivers, and the game ran better on my laptop, but I still experienced the occasional stutter that would break my combo, but I was at least able to pass the songs. I played again using my HP Reverb G2 and it ran much smoother, and I was able to maintain 600+ combos without issue. Moving forward, if I plan on playing Synth Riders with the Pimax I’ll stick with my desktop.

If you're a fan of Queen's music, We Are The Champions DLC is worth picking up. Since this song is sold by itself, it's challenging to get a bundle discount. You can wait for a Steam sale or buy the Complete Music Bundle for a slight discount. This song is well worth the $1.99 price tag.
